CANADA/USA MATHCAMP

Canada/USA Mathcamp is an intensive 5-week-long summer program for mathematically talented high school students, designed to expose these students to the beauty of advanced mathematical ideas and to new ways of thinking. Mathcampers are students ages 13-18 from around the world who are passionate about mathematics.

More than just a summer camp, Mathcamp is a vibrant community, made up of a wide variety of people who share a common love of learning and passion for mathematics. At Mathcamp, students can explore undergraduate and even graduate-level topics while building problem-solving skills that will help them in any field they choose to study. The location changes each year. In 2023, Mathcamp will take place at Champlain College in Burlington, VT from Sunday, July 2 to Sunday, August 6.

Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institute: Math

Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes is a summer enrichment program that provides academically talented and intellectually curious students currently in grades 8-11 with intensive study in a single course. Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes provides a taste of the Stanford classroom experience and challenges students with advanced content not typically found in the high-school curriculum.

Do you want to explore and create mathematics? Then read on, for that's what MathILy is all about! In MathILy classes, instructors provide the framework and you get to make (and prove!) the conjectures. You will encounter new ideas, improve your problem-solving skills, learn lots and lots of advanced mathematics, and hone your overall thinking skills. You'll meet others like you. (Yes, really. We promise.) Most of all, you will find serious mathematics infused with levity. MathILy is five weeks of maximized mathematical marvelousness.

BROWN PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAMS - STEM For Rising 9th and 10th Graders

If your idea of summer fun is a deep-dive into the STEM fields, this is the program for you. Join other rising 9th and 10th graders who are as passionate about advancing their knowledge of the STEM disciplines as you are for two weeks of hands-on team research projects, experiments and design-build challenges.

You’ll choose from a range of interesting and engaging courses in the STEM disciplines. Each course combines rigorous academic content, laboratory or field exercises, and a research project or design challenge that serves as a focus for academic work. You may also have the opportunity to engage with Brown graduate students and learn about graduate-level research projects. To complete the STEM experience, you’ll give a final presentation that showcases your project for your peers, instructors and family.

You will experience the satisfaction of advanced academics and indulge your love of learning, without the pressure of formal grades and credit.

English Programs

Columbia: summer immersion - new york city - creative writing courses

Enroll in an intensive pre-college course, designed to challenge and engage high-achieving students in a supportive environment. Experience college life in the Ivy League while enjoying the vibrancy of New York City. The Summer Immersion program is open to domestic or international students currently enrolled in grades 8 through 12. The residential option is open to students who will be 16 years of age or older by the start of the program. Younger students are welcome to apply for the commuter option or one of the online experiences.

Introduction to Creative Writing

Interested applicants are required to submit one or more creative writing samples demonstrating command of the English language (three pages minimum). The program may request additional writing samples as needed to determine the appropriate student level. This class is intended for current 8th and 9th graders.

The Great Books Summer Program

We are thrilled to offer a host of exciting choices for students entering grades 6-8, grades 9-12, and graduating seniors!  Lively Online Programs begin in July.  Multiple weeks of great On-Campus Programs on the campuses of Amherst College, Stanford University, Northwestern University, and Haverford College.  Abroad programs at Oxford, and in Dublin. And day programs on select campuses too! 

Great Books Literature and Discussion Program use literature as the catalyst for lively seminars that build critical thinking, close reading, and civil discourse skills. Great Books students embark on an amazing intellectual journey designed to challenge and support intellectually curious minds and prepare them to take command of their own best thinking and powers of expression. Great Books delivers excellent preparation for seminar-style college classes and for the life skill of thinking well on one's feet.

Writer's Workshop is an intensive writing program offered on the campuses of Amhert College and Pepperdine University as well as Online.  Aspiring young authors learn nuanced writing techniques and gain experience across genres and styles with our distinguished faculty of published authors and accomplished writers.  Works well as a stand-alone program or a great addition to our traditional discussion-based Great Books literature programs.

Georgetown: Creative Writing Institute

Transform your dreams, ideas, and stories into organized, compelling, creative written works with lectures by renowned literary figures from around the D.C. area, dynamic courses with Georgetown graduate student instructors, and insightful, productive feedback from your peers. This combination of workshops and tutorials will help you generate and polish a wealth of new poems, stories, and personal essays, and allow you to experiment with innovative forms in the field of creative writing. The Academy will also focus on the publishing and professionalization aspects of the industry, exploring what markets are available for your writing, what jobs are available to creative writers, funding opportunities for your work, undergraduate and graduate programs in writing, and how to get published. In addition, this week-long program will feature excursions to sites around Washington, D.C., an exercise in ekphrastic writing at the National Gallery of Art, and the chance to read your work aloud at Busboys and Poets, a famous D.C. literary hub. Students who enroll in the program will also have their writing featured in Three Stars, the Creative Writing Academy’s annual student literary magazine.

Brown Pre-College programs - Summer@Brown Creative Writing Courses

Along with a robust co-curricular program and a supervised residential experience, Summer@Brown is designed to help prepare students for the self-discipline and independence required for college-level life and learning. Students learn to balance rigorous academics and free time by making daily decisions about homework, activities, and relaxation.

Classes meet for three hours daily, and are scheduled during the morning, early afternoon, and late afternoon. Each course may require up to three hours of daily out-of-class homework assignments—reading, writing, group work, and studying. This time also includes scheduled meetings with your instructor or course Teaching Assistant. Many courses feature site visits, excursions, labs, or hands-on projects, all of which broaden the student learning experience.
